Film Analysis: Performative Documentary
Performative Documentary
In today blog I will be analysing one my chosen documentary that not an ordinary documentary, but is's a hybrid documentary. The documentary that I am chosen to analyse is a hybrid documentary that combine documentary and a reality show with in once. This documentary are call Chasing Mummies, Chasing Mummies is a documentary of a History Channel.
Chasing Mummies is a documentary that have lot of performant happen, and the main star of this documentary is Dr. Zahi Hawass Egyptian Archaeology leading a young Archeology to discover Egypt. First performant that can be spot out is when Dr. Hawass working with the young Archaeology he was acting as a leader and the one that known in everything about the Mummies and History of Egypt and alway scare and put those young Archeology in a high pressure.
In other hand, when he switch to speak with a camera "aka the Audience" his personality was change, because when he speak to the camera it feel like that he speaking to his history student, he explain everything very well with a soft voice difference to how he speak to those young Archeology, it seem like Dr. Hawass have a multiple personality in this show.
Watching Chasing Mummies is make me feeling I was there with them, due to the camera work that follow them especially Dr. Hawass everywhere, it feel like I am observing on how the Archeology working in Egypt and how did they handle with thing such as weather, pressure and lot of information that Dr. Hawass try to put into their brains.
Watch Chasing Mummies I think I a received more than just entertaining, but I feel more likely to get an experience of working as an Archeology in Egypt because of the spectatorship of this show is try to make the audiences feel that way. They want us the audience to feel be unite to the Archeology.
