Documentary production: Interview

The interview According to the Interview Strategies of Jerry Rothwell and to his idea of contributor roles, I personally see myself as a witness and participant according to Rothwell strategies in many events that happen my life or in other people life that was related to me personally. As a witness to the event I also experience a similar emotion to the participant, so I quite confident to tell the story out in the same emotion as the participant. An event that I saw my self as a witness and also a participant is one of an event that I could not be forgotten for the rest of mine. This event happened in July 2017 in a Hospital, a man who was my uncle, teacher, and also my role model in a team of manner are suffering from the last stage of cancer were resting. In one of the Tuesday, I and my family and his family are celebrating his daughter birthday together and expect that the birthday celebration could help to fight with cancer somehow, as the party he looks happy and enjoy. As a witness to the event I personally see and witness a good quality family time and hope that he could live longer, but every expectation and hope that I have in that Tuesday is tumbledown within 12 hours. We all return home after the party with hope, but walk up with bad news, in the next morning my mom has received a call from his wife that he almost pass by so can we all go to the hospital. After the phone everyone was rush to the hospital at the time around 8:00 am, when we arrive he looked so bad and different from yesterday, he looked totally like a different person. I was standing next to his bed looking at him, he breathes hard then soft and continues like that for not longer than 10 minutes, and he stops breathing. At the moment that he seems to stop breath I was rushing out to get the doctor after doctor enters the room he looks at the patient and looks at us, the doctor says nothing but we all know what is the message that the doctor tries to communicate to us. A man that I see as a role model pass away in front of me, and he is the first person that I saw the last moment of life.

Film Theories: Psychoanalysic

Psychoanalysis Psychoanalysis is theory and therapy which aims to treat the mental disorder by investigating the interaction of conscious and unconscious element in the mind and bringing repressed fears and conflicts into the conscious mind by the techniques such as dream interpretation and bring association. Psychoanalysis in relation to film, the element of psychoanalysis that been use quite often in cinema world mental disorder. In many thriller or action movies have placed this element into the character to fulfill the need of the character. The greatest example of the character that suffering from mental disorder is Joker from Batman. In Batman Joker is the greatest example of a character who has a mental disorder due to the bad experience. Joker character is clearly identified as Id one of the three personalities of Sigmund Freud personality structure because joker has to present a true nature human instinct, an instinct that hidden and been locker in everyone by the society. Batman or any superhero movies have contained a lot of character that has a mental disorder, in Batman not only Joker who have a mental disorder and qualify as Id from Sigmund Freud personality structure. Another character that could be identified as Ego personality is Batman or Bruce Wayne, the character of Bruce Wayne of Batman is clearly identified is Ego a personality that attempts to control Id or Joker. Bruce Wayne itself is a character who lives reality principle follow the rule and law of society, but in order hand when Bruce Wayne become Batman at night it feels like the personality of this character is shifting from Ego to Id. The personality of Batman or Bruce Wayne, when becoming Batman, does not really care about the reality principal but follow his on instinct ignorer to hunt the criminal to protect Gotham city.
This two-character from Batman is the greatest example of the relation between the cinematic world and Psychoanalysis theory.
Other than the character of Joker and Bruce Wayne from Batman, another great example for mental disorder character in movies is the main character from the film call Split. The main character of these movies is a multiple character person who contains many personalities within one person, some personality of him or her is clearly identified as Id in relation to Sigmund Freud personality structure.

Approach To Narrative: Run Lola Run Question

Approach To Narrative question:
Run Lola Run

The movie has a non-conventional opening scene that lats for about four minute. How are time and space of the film defined in this scene?

Run Lola Run is a German film that talking about a woman call Lola and her mission to help her boyfriend, in the opening scene of Run Lola Run the creator or director has given an audience a hint on the narrative and story of the movie.

In the opening scene of Run Lola Run an element of clock or time had appeared quite often in combination of tiktok sound, this particular element has given us an audiences feeling of time is ticking time is running out somehow. The idea of time is running make more send when the clock appears, a clock that appears in the opening scene had given a clear answer of how time is work in this movie by using a clock that running faster than normal to present a feeling of time is running out or the limited of time, this scene has given us a hint that time will be one of the main narratives for the movie.

It will be much more clear when the animation scene of Lola running to the clock, this scene automatic identify to us that time is very important in the narrative of this movie. In the opening scene of Run Lola Run, we now know that time in this movie is run toward the count down.

Documentary Production: Museum visited

Museum visited

Hi, everyone today I would like to share you my inspiration after me visiting a museum in London, the museum that I have visited this time is Victoria and Albert Museum or V&A. In this museum, I have seen many antiques from around the globe, but there is one type of antique that had attracted my attention so much is an antique from South East Asia and China. An antique from these two areas had got my attention due to my interest and background, yes! I am a film student but like said before in my introducing blog “film not only my interest”, but it just one of my big interest, another interest of my is history special Asian. When I saw an antique from Asia it all way remind me of where I came from and who am I, my big ambition in film making is to tell the world about the history of my people and who we are, but there is a time that I have forgotten about that, so the antique in V&A had reminded me this ambition

Film Theories: Realism

Realism of films

Realism is a theory that alway being together with the world of cinema for a decade together with formalism. In today blog I will use realism to analyses a film by choice, but before I can analyses a films by using the aspect of realism theory first I have to understand on what is realism. Realism is a theory that focusing on a realistic of cinema in many aspect in contrasting to formalism that more into a imerginary narrative aspect of cinema. In realism people are put a lot of attention into camera angle and movement, prop and costume design, the use of music, lighting, editing  and the use of location in order to create a new whole world that look and feel realistic and believable when that audience are watching it on a big scene.

My choice of chosen for today subject it will not be a film from Marvel cinematic universe, because a film from that universe is difficult to identify realistic aspect from it. The film that I am chosen for this topic is a Hacksaw Ridge, in this blog I will identify the realistic of this film due to this film is base on a historical event and person so I will compare a scene from this movie to a reality of what it actuary happen in the history of World War 2.
Hacksaw Ridge is setting on a life of Pfc. Desmond T. Doss who serve in US army during the World War 2, Doss unite under command of Sergeant Howell is assigned to 77th Infantry Division and deployed to the Pacific theatre. Now, who knows where is the movie are taking place and time, so now we Will identify the realistic of this movie. First looking at the realistic of setting, in this images we see that in reality, a cliff that Doss and his comrade has to climb up is not that hight like what Mel Gibson has presented to us. I understand the reason of making to cliff higher than reality is to create an emotion of impossibility to the movie, but in tears of realism, this is an error.

Next I will take about the realities of an action scene of this movie, from the aspect of camera movement I can say that the action scene in Hacksaw Ridge it’s in between realism and formalism due to some scene is quite over, for example in the scene that one soldier carrying a remaining of other soldier and walking toward to the enemy line, in realism he will get shot since he started walking we don’t have to take about carrying part of other solder and killing Japanese soldier at the same time with a heavy M1918 BAR that weight up to 7.25 kg, in reality, that is impossible to happen.

This just two example of realism clash in a film that supports to be realistic. This just the beginning of realism analysis. I WILL BE BACK !!

Film Theories: Formalism and Soviet montage

Formalism and Soviet montage

Formalism film and Soviet montage are the remarkable theories of filmmaking, Formalism film might be an unusual type of film at the beginning of formalism movies, due to the formalism movies put a lot of attention on form more than a content of the film. Formalism film only emphasizes on how to communicate an idea and emotion through the form such as sound, colure and set design rather than focusing on the content of the film itself, formalism filmmaker in the early age of formalism is emphasize on how their film look on screen. The great example of the early age of formalism film is the work of Robert wiene in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)  In The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari Robert Wiene has disguised the reality of how the world looks, we can see from an unusual setting of house and building and a strange walk of the main character that looks very unusual for filmmaking at that time. Formalism film in an early age is a film of disguise that not rely on the reality of how the wold look but more rely on an idea of the director.

Soviet Montage quite difference from formalism in form of practical work, Soviet montage filmmaker like Lev Kuleshov focusing on the element that uses in producing a film. Kuleshov focusing on shot and scene and the arrangement of scene to create a many meaning out of few shot and scene that already existing, rather than disguise the reality by using a power art like what the formalism filmmaker has done, as film student I found Soviet montage is more useful for me due to my working style is not a person who siting down for a hour to create a imaginary looking world, but I am more into creating a world from everything around me. Soviet montage has inspired me on how to create a remarkable film from a thing that already existing by experiment on it like what Lev Kuleshov has done at the early age of Soviet montage.
